Report: Aussie paceman announces shock Test retirement

Australian paceman James Pattinson has reportedly retired from Test cricket.

According to The Australian's chief cricket writer Peter Lalor, the 31-year-old has told selectors he is not available for the upcoming Ashes series, which is due to start on November 8.

Multiple back injuries restricted Pattinson to 21 Tests since he debuted in 2011, taking 81 wickets at an average of 26.33.

The Victorian quick was behind New South Wales trio Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc in the Australia’s fast bowling pecking order.

Pattinson last appeared at Test level for Australia against New Zealand at the SCG in January 2020.

He’s taken over 300 first-class wickets and has also played 15 ODIs and four T20Is.
