Cricket Victoria provides update on Pucovski's fitness

Cricket Victoria GM Shaun Graf believes Will Pucovski may return to cricket this coming weekend, as uncertainty around his availability for the upcoming Ashes series continues.

Pucovski has not played since suffering a concussion in a training incident in mid-October.

There has been strong concerns for the up-and-coming star of Australian cricket as a result of several previous concussions.

While he has not played the opening two Sheffield Shield games for Victoria, there’s hope he’ll be able to play premier-grade cricket this week.

“He’s looking to have a hit hopefully this week and then will need to play in the one-day game for Melbourne on the weekend, just to make certain he can get through even that,” Graf told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“Then there’s the Shield game and there’s a second XI game at the MCG later in the month that he might play as well.

Victoria is scheduled to play New South Wales in a Shield clash on November 19.

Graf also gave an update on Pucovski’s condition, suggesting he’s getting closer to full fitness.

“Obviously we’ve got to work with him, he’s got to be symptom-free to be able to play,” he said.

“He’s more or less there, but any sort of vigorous exercise he gets some headaches back occasionally.

“We’re still working through it, but we’re very hopeful if he can get through and be available for the Premier Cricket game, hopefully then he’ll be available for the Shield side.”

Pucovski debuted in the Test scene against India earlier this year with a fifty in his first knock, after his national career was delayed by mental health concerns.
