Former number one draft Paddy McCartin could be given an AFL lifeline, according to Channel 9.
McCartin, who departed St Kilda after suffering eight concussions in five seasons, was delisted by the Saints at the end of the 2019 season.
The 25-year-old most recently played with Sydney in the VFL and according to the report on Monday night, the Swans are considering offering him a spot on their AFL list.
Geelong great Jimmy Bartel said he was thrilled at the prospect of McCartin being given another chance to impress at AFL level.
“This is good for him,” he said on Sportsday.
“I hate seeing players not actually get the opportunity to show their full talent due to injury, I hope he’s over his concussion woes and has a full career.
“I remember watching him up close in his Geelong Falcons days, we just haven’t seen him at AFL level properly.”
McCartin was suspended for five games in the VFL earlier this year after striking Geelong’s Aaron Black, with the talented forward issuing a publicly apology in the days after the incident.
