How Langer gets the most out of Smith and Warner

Australian cricket coach Justin Langer has helped steer his side to the T20 World Cup final in Dubai with five wins from six games in the tournament.

Heading to the UAE with low expectations, Langer’s team has found their spark with several star players recapturing their best form.

With this Australian side having plenty of different personalities, Langer says one of the keys to their success is that everybody is treated differently as the coach tries to get the most out of each individual.

“Whenever I talk at coaching seminars or leadership seminars I say the one thing I’ve learned is you’ve got to treat everybody differently,” Langer said on Sportsday.

“I’ve got four daughters, they all come from the same place but they’re all so different.

“So, if my daughters are all different, I can guarantee my players are all different and you’ve got to treat them differently.

“It’s like trying to tell Steve Smith how to bat, we just throw balls at him and he just works it out.”

After being dropped from Sunrisers Hyderabad’s side in the most recent IPL season, opener David Warner has quickly found his touch for the national side, making 236 runs from six knocks at an average of 47.20.

As perhaps Australia’s most crucial player, Langer revealed how he thinks Warner has turned the tide with his batting in recent weeks.

“We talk about owning your own space in the Australian cricket team, and Dave Warner, he is like having Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather in your team, two in one,” Langer explained.

“He just does his thing, we back him in and we keep our arms around him and he’s been brilliant.

“He is elite fit at the moment, which tells me he’s hungry and he’s playing beautifully as well.

“Let’s hope he’s got another good one in him for the final.”

The Australians will look to claim their first T20 World Cup trophy when they take on New Zealand on Monday morning (AEDT).

New Zealand have also never won the World T20 crown.
