“It was a demolition job”: Mitch Marsh finds vindication in T20 World Cup triumph

Mitch Marsh’s vindication has arrived.

Just over 10 years on from his debut in green and gold, the 30-year-old has achieved his crowning moment as an Australian cricketer.

The public have struggled to reconcile his promise with his output, but Marsh has put the doubts to bed forever with a match-winning knock in the T20 World Cup final victory over New Zealand.

His 77 from 50 deliveries contained 10 boundaries, four of which were clubbed over the rope in a timely display of power hitting.

Australian captain Aaron Finch lauded the West Australian, who combined first with David Warner (53 from 38) before seeing his nation over the line with Glenn Maxwell (28 from 18).

“The way he started, jeez…” Finch told SEN Breakfast.

“Coming in with 14 from (his first) three balls, it was just a demolition job.”

Finch said it was fitting Marsh’s international career has reached its maturity.

“He’s been so harshly dealt with so many times, because of how good he can be,” Finch recalled.

“He's 30 now, so to see him really relaxed and comfortable in his life, it's no surprise his cricket falls into place behind that.”

The former Test opener believes Marsh has done no harm to his hopes of being selected as the all-rounder for the summer’s home Ashes series.

“I think he’ll be in the conversation, no doubt,” Finch affirmed.

Australia chased down the Kiwis’ total of 172 with seven balls to spare at the Dubai International Stadium.
