Levi Casboult remains unvaccinated against COVID-19, potentially casting doubt around whether Gold Coast will look to hand him an AFL lifeline as a delisted free agent.
Casboult was delisted by Carlton at the end of the last season after playing 154 games in 10 years.
The 31-year-old remains on the lookout for a second club, with Sportsday co-host Sam McClure reporting on Monday night that he currently isn't vaccinated.
“Liam Jones has just walked away from his AFL career with a year left on his contract because he doesn’t want to get vaccinated,” he reported on Sportsday.
“I’m told Levi Casboult is in a similar scenario…although I think he wants to get vaccinated but it waiting for the new Novavax vaccination from the USA.”
Gold Coast General Manager of Football Performance Wayne Campbell confirmed the club’s interest in the veteran forward, but wasn’t interested in the discussion around Casboult’s current vaccination status.
“I can confirm we’ve spoken to Levi (Casboult) but I’ll leave the second bit alone as I just don’t think that’s something I should be entering into about someone’s private medical records," he said on Sportsday.
“Have we spoken to Levi about possibly coming to the Gold Coast? Yes we have over a period, that will play out…an individual’s vaccination status isn’t for me to go in to.
If Casboult does join the Suns as a delisted free agent, he’ll partner gun forward Ben King and provided extra support for the prodigious young talent.
