Rumours are circulating that veteran five-eighth Kieran Foran may be out the door at Manly with Newcastle or Wests Tigers as potential suitors.
Foran was one of the Cinderella stories in 2021 after re-uniting with coach Des Hasler and returning to his blistering form after many had thought his best was behind him.
The Daily Telegraph's David Riccio said if Foran were to leave the Sea Eagles, he would be making a mistake.
“If Kieran Foran is honest about his career, he shouldn’t be leaving Manly,” Riccio told SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“He had a great year and I believe he plays his best football under Des Hasler.
“I wrote him off, a lot of people did on the back of his Bulldogs season (in 2020).”
New Zealander Foran played 25 games and wound back the clock with halfback Daly Cherry-Evans. The pair won a premiership for Manly in 2011.
With the departure of Mitchell Pearce to France, the Knights have a vacant playmaker position. However, Newcastle has a host of young talent who are poised to take the role.
“I’m pretty sure they’ll (Newcastle) stick with what they’ve got. The likes of Adam Clune, Jake Clifford and Phoenix Crossland,” Riccio added.
“Andrew Johns wants to move Tex Hoy into the halves as a six, so I think they’re pretty good for halves.”
Wests Tigers have had their own off-season drama with reports that halfback Luke Brooks is out of favour at the club, which could open a position.
But Riccio sees Foran remaining at Brookvale.
“I can see why the Tigers would be interested in Foran, but I think he sticks out his career at Manly,” he said further.
Foran is contracted at Manly for the 2022 season.
