Macarthur FC have maintained their unbeaten start to the A-League season with an incredible comeback win over the Newcastle Jets.
The Bulls were reduced to 10-men after goalkeeper Filip Kurto was sent-off in the 18th minute.
After conceding late in the first half, the Bulls equalised early in the second and defender James Meredith slotted the match winner in the 84th minute to seal the most unlikely of victories.
Former professional footballer Adam Kwasnik says it was one of the most impressive wins he has seen in the A-League.
“They’re impressive Macarthur,” Kwasnik said on SEN 1170 Mornings.
“I tipped them to do really well this season.
“The way they are doing it, it’s impressive.”
The Bulls were dominated by the Jets on the stat sheet.
Newcastle had 21 shots to the Bulls’ seven and had 75% off the possession but were not able to capitalise on their dominance.
Kwasnik says that whilst the football that Macarthur plays isn’t the most attractive, the game plan is one of the best in the competition.
“They (Macarthur) are happy for other teams to have the ball,” Kwasnik said.
“They just absorb so much pressure and they do it quite comfortably.
“They’re not attractive to watch … they do enough to win games.
“They work defensively as a real tight unit.”
Macarthur have the best goal differential of any side in the competition, scoring seven goals and only conceding two. Both goals conceded being from set pieces.
Kwasnik admits it is early in the season but has Macarthur as his early favourite to take out the trophy.
“They just stick to their game plan,” he said.
“Ante Milicic and his coaching staff should be proud … that they find themselves at the top of the tree.
“I think they’ll go on with it from here.”
Macarthur will next host Sydney FC on Boxing Day.
