Essendon father-son prospect Tex Wanganeen is vying for a place on the Bombers’ list for 2022.
Wanganeen, the son of Essendon and Port Adelaide champion Gavin, did his chances no harm of claiming the final spot on the club’s list in match simulation on Thursday morning.
The teenager was overlooked in last year’s draft, but is one of two train-on players pushing for a Bombers list spot via the pre-season supplemental period.
AFL Media reporter Cal Twomey witnessed Wanganeen’s lively performance in today’s hit-out.
“One that has taken the eye is Tex Wanganeen,” Twomey told SEN Mornings.
“A father-son at the club and training here at the Bombers as part of the pre-season supplemental period.
“He was very, very impressive wearing the No.4 playing up forward.
“I think he’s definitely right in the mix to claim that last spot on the Bombers’ list.”
Subiaco forward and train-on player Nick Martin also impressed in Essendon’s training session at Tullamarine.
Essendon and Port Adelaide opted not to nominate Wanganeen for father-son selection in the 2021 National Draft after the youngster’s injury-interrupted season.
Tex’s father Gavin won a Brownlow Medal and a premiership with the Bombers in 1993 before moving to Alberton and winning a flag with the Power in 2004.
The five-time All-Australian called time on his decorated 300-game career in 2006.
