Four players are vying for two vacant list spots at Essendon
Train-on quartet Tex Wanganeen, Nick Martin, Dylan Clark and Ronald Fejo Jnr are jostling to claiming a Bombers list spot for the 2022 season.
Wanganeen, the son of Brownlow Medallist and Bombers premiership player Gavin, and Subiaco forward Martin both impressed in Wednesday’s intraclub at The Hanger.
Martin kicked a match-high four goals, while Wanganeen chimed in with two majors.
“He (Wanganeen) is in a group of guys who put their hand up,” Essendon GM of Football Josh Mahoney told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.
“He put his hand up again today, as did Nick Martin, who has come across from WA.
“We’ve got Dylan Clark and Ronnie Fejo training with us as well. We’ve certainly got a decision to make which is a positive for us.
“We look forward to making those decisions in the next couple of weeks.”
Fejo, a speedy wingman from SANFL club West Adelaide, also caught the eye in Essendon’s intraclub match.
“He’s an exciting player,” Mahoney said of Fejo.
“He played in the SANFL, and we think he’s got some good potential and Nick Martin has played some really good WAFL footy as well.
“It’s good to be able to look at these guys and put them up against our players. We may be able to look at a few of them next week against the Bulldogs, which gives you another look at them against really good opponents.
“We’ve got a decision to make, but it’s pleasing we’ve got two spots to fill, and we’re going to fill them with some good players.”
The AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period ends on March 9.
