Geelong CEO Steve Hocking has confirmed the club has approached AFLW great Daisy Pearce about a potential assistant coaching role with the men’s team.
The Age reported on Tuesday night that Pearce, who is currently playing with Melbourne’s AFLW side, was in “advanced discussions” with Geelong about an assistant role under Chris Scott.
The report also states that Pearce turned down an opportunity to coach Essendon’s inaugural AFLW side, who will join the league later this year.
Speaking on Sportsday immediately after the story broke, Hocking said the club had spoken to Pearce’s manager about a potential role within the men's program.
“Most of us would have interest in where Daisy (Pearce) would like to spend her future,” he said on Sportsday.
“She is one of the most decorated players and an icon not just of women’s football but football is general, Daisy (Pearce) is committed to Melbourne and they’re clearly going to have a big say in the finals and they’d love to win an (AFLW) premiership.
“Talking to her manager, Melbourne is committed to Daisy continuing there and they haven’t made a decision on her future.
“There’s many clubs along with us who would like to secure her services but Daisy is a committed footballer at Melbourne.”
Pearce is one of the most in-demand people in football both on and off the field, most recently replacing Wayne Carey as Channel 7’s marquee footy special comments analyst on a Friday night.
