“I don’t see why not“: Could Bronny James play for the Sydney Kings?

Sydney Kings guard Jaylen Adams says that he would love to see LeBron James’ son Bronny come to the Habour City and play for the Kings.

Kings owner Paul Smith offered James the invitation to travel Down Under and play for his side as part of the NBL Next Stars program.

Adams, who has had a breakout campaign in the 2021/22 NBL season, says the Next Stars Program has proved it can produce NBA-level talent.

“I don’t see why not," Adams said on 1170 SEN when asked about the prospect of James playing in the NBL.

“The Next Stars program has proved that it works.

“Right now, there are a lot of talented young guys and Sydney is a great city.”

The Next Stars program was an initiative introduced by the NBL at the start of the 2018/19 season to develop overseas talent and prepare them to be drafted in the NBA.

The program is full of success stories with the most notable being LaMelo Ball who spent a season with the Illawarra Hawks and made constant headlines.

He was later drafted as the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft and shot to stardom with the Charlotte Hornets.

The program allows athletes to bypass college basketball and as James is about to finish high school in the US, he would be a perfect candidate for the program.

Adams has warned James that the NBL is very different to any basketball he would’ve experienced.

“(The NBL) is a different kind of game,” Adams continued.

“It’s not something that I’ve dealt with before and it’s a little bit more physical than any league I’ve played in.

“It’s a good league with good young players and solid guys on every team.

“You’ve got to bring your best every night.”

The Sydney Kings travel to Cairns to take on the Taipans on March 13.
