Josh Gibcus is set to make his debut in Richmond’s season opener as the Tigers face Carlton at the MCG on Thursday night.
Just 18 years old, the key defender was taken at pick No.9 in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft.
Gibcus, who stands at 195cm tall, was named one of the best intercept defenders in last year’s draft pool and is known for his high-flying marks.
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick told Gibcus the good news in front of his teammates.
“It’s exciting first and foremost for Josh and his family but it’s exciting for us as a team,” Hardwick said.
“We’re very fortunate to have First Gamers come in and make an immediate contribution.”
Hardwick had encouraging words for Gibcus ahead of his debut.
“Look forward to it, mate. Just bring your strengths, that’s all you’ve gotta do,” he added.
