Richardson’s final All-Australian team for 2022

Richmond great Matthew Richardson has named his final All-Australian team for 2022.

Richardson announced his team before the official side was unveiled at the AFL awards on Wednesday night.

The former All-Australian selector went with James Sicily and Daniel Rioli in defence instead of Tom Stewart and Adam Saad.

“This will be controversial, but I had Rioli in for the last few weeks and he played well again on the weekend,” he said on Sportsday.

“I think most people would have Saad, but I went for Rioli in the end because he kicked nine goals and out of the defenders that were in the squad, the 44, Rioli’s the only one in the top 100 for score involvements.”

Mark Blicavs and Josh Daicos got the nod on the wings in Richardson’s team.

“He (Daicos) was a genuine wingman and I’ve picked a genuine wingman. He may not have been a best 22 over the season, but he was a wingman who was outstanding,” the three-time All-Australian said.

“I’ve gone with Mark Blicavs on the other wing because he is the ultimate utility, and he can play anywhere.”
