Power concerned over Georgiades’ intentions amid interest in Demons forward

Port Adelaide is bracing for West Coast to mount a raid on forward Mitch Georgiades.

The Power have an element of concern over Georgiades’ intentions given the West Australian declined to sign a new contract earlier this season.

Georgiades, 20, is contracted for next year and has given no indication he would entertain a move away from Port.

But he was dropped twice this year – once mid-season and again late in the season, despite key forward colleague Todd Marshall being struck down with Covid. The Eagles were hoping to draft Georgiades as a teenager and have picks 2, 20 and 26 among this year’s draft haul.

At this stage, Georgiades has not been mentioned in the discussion around Junior Rioli, who is poised to move from the Eagles to the Power.

Robbie Gray’s retirement and Orazio Fantasia’s injury struggles have created a need for Rioli, who would join on a slightly more lucrative contract, but also move to a better city for his family to be with him while also being able to see his mum regularly after losing his father this year.

Port, meanwhile, maintain an interest in Kysaiah Pickett and continue to ask the question of the exciting Melbourne forward.

Pickett doesn’t love Melbourne, but loves the Demons and is contracted for next year. Like Georgiades though, he hasn’t been keen to sign a contract extension for the time being.

As expected, Luke Jackson is this week set to request a trade from Melbourne to Fremantle.
