Grundy not “far behind” Treloar-like dissatisfaction with Collingwood trade

SEN’s Sam Edmund believes “something extraordinary” would have to happen for Collingwood’s Brodie Grundy to not be traded to Melbourne this off-season.

While Edmund doesn’t expect the ruckman to make an announcement or nominate the Demons publicly, he expects the deal to go through with the Magpies making a “sizeable contribution” to the remaining five years of his mega contract.

“This will happen to Melbourne,” Edmund said on SEN’s Crunch Time.

“It’d take something extraordinary for it not to, all the pieces are in place.

“There won’t be an announcement or a nomination from Grundy, he doesn’t have to do that.

“But the trade will happen and there’ll be a sizable contribution from the Collingwood end, he has five years left at a million dollars a season.”

With this move a salary dump from Collingwood’s perspective, Edmund believes Grundy is dissatisfied with the club, much like Adam Treloar who wanted to remain a Magpie but was traded to the Bulldogs at the end of the 2020 season.

“If Adam Treloar was 10 out of 10 on the anger scale with his departure, this isn’t that far behind from my understanding,” Edmund said.

“Brodie Grundy has never been scared to speak his mind and I just wonder when it’s all said and done if he’ll express dissatisfaction with how it’s all played out.

“At the end of the day, he wanted to stay at Collingwood.

“I hope he’ll paint a picture for us when he does get to Melbourne on the other side.”

If Grundy does eventually express his discontent with Collingwood, SEN’s Gerard Whateley feels the ruckman has “every right to” given that this is a club-inspired move.

“This is a club-inspired move,” Whateley said.

“I think he has every right to make sure everyone in footy totally understands that.”

Grundy has played 177 games for Collingwood since making his debut in 2013, winning two Copeland Trophies and two All-Australian blazers.
