Cornes and Lyon name the delisted free agents who could get another shot

There are plenty of clubs searching for a fairytale story with a delisted free agent.

With teams finalising their lists ahead of November’s National Draft, numerous players would consider themselves unlucky to be off an AFL list.

One of those is Jed Anderson, The 28-year-old former Roo played every game bar one after Round 8 this year and put forward several performances that would have seen him in his club’s best.

With 99 games of AFL experience, he’s one player Kane Cornes can see finding his way onto his third list.

“Jed Anderson might get a look in,” the Power Hall of Famer told SEN Breakfast.

“Tough inside midfielder, I can’t believe he’s not good enough to make North Melbourne’s best 22 when you look at it.

“I’m not sure who’s going to be playing has role next year, they do have some young upcoming midfielders with Luke Davies-Uniacke and Jy Simpkin, but I would have thought he’s in there.

“He probably finds a home.”

Cornes also described Liam Stocker as the “best of the delisted free agents” and described Sydney Stack as the “most talented” but admitted concern with his preparation.

Meanwhile, Garry Lyon also threw up former Tiger Riley Collier-Dawkins as one who deserves another chance.

After being drafted in 2018, Collier-Dawkins took more than two years to break into the Tigers' side before playing nine games in 2021.

But the midfielder managed just two appearances in 2022, and the writing was on the wall when Richmond recruited Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper in the trade period.

“Riley Collier-Dawkins is a player that I’ve liked and did like when he’s in his VFL time,” Lyon added.

“They flirted with him in the middle of the ground and played him and they would say they gave him an opportunity, we know how deep they are with Taranto and Hopper coming into the side.

“I think he would be someone who might be worth at least a pre-season to see if he can slot in or not.”
