Former Collingwood defender Jack Madgen is set to sign with Adelaide’s SANFL team for the 2023 season.
Matt Rendell, who served as a recruiter for both clubs and is the uncle of Madgen, revealed the move on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old played 49 games for the Magpies before ultimately being delisted and will continue his career with the Crows in the SANFL with the possibility of being picked up in the Mid-Season Draft.
“I’ve got to give you some information … I spoke to you blokes about the guys who got delisted, well I can give you some news that one of those players is being picked up by the Crows,” Rendell told SEN SA’s The Run Home.
“It’s my nephew (Jack Madgen)! I’ve got him another job! And I’ve got the Crows another player!
“He’ll be joining their SANFL side and working at the club in development as well.
“I think it’s a really good pick-up by the Crows. I’m really worried if one of their key backs gets injured.
“Fischer McAsey has obviously gone home, who knows what’s happening there, and the only other one they’ve got left is James Borlase and he’s 192cm.
“I think it’s a smart move by the Crows. If they happen to lose one, they can pick Jack in the mid-season draft if they need a key back.
“If they’ve got a spot, they could do it in the pre-season, especially if they lost someone, but certainly mid-season. I think it’s smart move by them on a key back.
“They’re getting a fantastic person into their footy club with an enormous work ethic.”
Madgen played the first nine games of the season for the Magpies before injuries saw him miss time and then fall out of favour.
