The Blues are sweating on another injury suffered by midfielder David Cuningham.
Cuningham, who has played since 2021 after tearing his ACL and further complications, dislocated his shoulder at training according to SEN’s Sam Edmund.
He had worked his way back into full training over summer before this latest setback.
“There are some really nervous people at Carlton after David Cuningham went down with what could prove to be a nasty shoulder injury,” Edmund told SEN Mornings.
“The injury prone speedster dislocated his shoulder yesterday and there is at the moment some chance he could need surgery.
“The worst case scenario would be a reconstruction which would effectively be season over, now that’s a six-month layoff. Of course the same situation that was confronted by Max King and St Kilda before Christmas.
“Cuningham was wrestling with teammates towards the end of training yesterday, something of a muck around, nothing unusual, and the shoulder has just popped up. He had just got himself back into match simulation and full practice.
“He hasn’t played since tearing his ACL back in 2021 and has dealt with complications and setbacks and a serious shoulder injury.
“Carlton have got a few issues. Sam Walsh and Zac Williams we know, Mitch McGovern with the back problem, Corey Durdin the calf at the moment.”
The 25-year-old has played 41 games for the Blues since being selected with pick 23 in the 2015 National Draft.
