The key defender beat out the likes of Andrew Brayshaw for the role who was also considered a top candidate.
Pearce was incredibly humbled to receive the position.
“I’m incredibly humbled and proud to be captain,” Pearce said via a statement.
“It’s special to know that everyone who is alongside me and is a part of this Club values me as a leader.
“Nathan, I have obviously worked closely with him. I lived with him and had a great connection with him.
“Even though he is not in the leadership group this year he is going to be my biggest resource and help moving forward."
Pearce is Fremantle’s 10th official captain and he takes the role with 84 AFL games to his name.
Brayshaw and Caleb Serong have been named as Pearce’s vice-captains.
Hayden Young, Sam Switkowski and Jaeger O’Meara round out a six-man leadership group.
