“Won’t make the eight”: SEN host sticking by bold Collingwood call

SEN SA host and veteran footy presenter Kym Dillon still doesn’t believe Collingwood will play finals in 2023.

Dillon made the bold call in the off-season that the Magpies would drop off after making a Preliminary Final in 2022 and he’s sticking fat, despite Collingwood’s fast start.

That start has seen the Magpies quickly rush into premiership favouritism with a 22-point win over Geelong in Round 1 and a 71-point win over Port Adelaide in Round 2.

Despite their early dominance, Dillon believes the Magpies will eventually run out of steam and miss finals altogether.

After picking Carlton to miss finals in 2022 and remaining by that call despite their good start to last campaign, Dillon explained why he’s still not on the Collingwood bandwagon to co-host Michelangelo Rucci.

Dillon: “Port Adelaide … I did not see that coming.

“I’ll put my hand up, I couldn’t have got it any more wrong, but I’m sticking fat, Collingwood won’t make the eight.”

Rucci: “I don’t think you can say that anymore.”

Dillon: “I can.”

Rucci: “Don’t double down on this, they’re an impressive unit. I don’t know what Craig McRae has done in that sense.

“We know he’s got a completely different playbook to Nathan Buckley, it’s gone from dark to bright sunshine in terms of attacking footy.

“He’s got those Collingwood players believing … his players believe what is put before them and they could achieve anything.

“Don’t lock them out of the eight, they’re going to make it.”

Dillon: “I do all of my form, and I’m not going to jump at shadows.

“I know they’re very impressive, but I can’t just flip now, I’m going to stick fat, I think it’s going to be hard to maintain this type of high-energy football.

“They’ve got Richmond this week, what if they get pumped by Richmond?”

Collingwood, who currently sit in fourth place, will hope to remain unbeaten when they face Richmond in a blockbuster clash at the MCG on Friday night.
