The Wests Tigers front office structure means the board and CEO aren't under pressure in the manner that perhaps they should, according to the Sydney Morning Herald's Adrian Proszenko.
There’s been plenty of uproar surrounding the Tigers' hierarchy and their current CEO Justin Pascoe, who has been at the club for seven years after another disappointing start to the season.
“At the moment, there is no accountability at the Tigers because that board can be there forever and a day, there’s no mechanism or switch that you can flip,” Proszenko told SEN's NRL Crunch Time.
Pascoe oversaw the development of the new centre of excellence in Concord which opened last year as a sign of his impact on the club off the field.
However, despite the success off the field, the Tigers have regressed down the ladder each year since 2019, finishing, ninth, 11th, 13th, 16th and now 17th for the joint-venture.
The Tigers don’t have voting members like some clubs do and there is currently nothing the fans can do to change the people in charge of the club.
“If you’re a disgruntled Bulldogs fan and you’re not happy with the way the club is run, you can go to the next election and vote out the board and vote someone who you think will do a better job,” Proszenko added.
The latest criticism headed the Tigers' way has surrounded the talk of approaching Mitchell Pearce to join the club.
Pearce left the NRL at the end of the 2021 season and has been enjoying his time in France with the Catalans Dragons with an eye on retirement.
“I look at the Mitchell Pearce thing… people were having a go at them when they were trying to get Cameron Munster and Mitchell Moses almost saying you’re shooting too high,” Proszenko stated.
“Now it almost feels like it’s going the other way, trying to resurrect the career of someone who’s about to turn 34 in a weeks’ time to steer around a club that was 16th and is now coming 17th.”
The Tigers have a massive task ahead of them on Saturday night as they travel up to Brisbane to face the undefeated Broncos.
