The Free Kick Ladder has incited both calm and fury among supporters of the impacted clubs in recent years.
Now that four rounds have passed in 2023, it’s time to wheel it out once again.
Best/worst differentials
Collingwood sits atop the free kick ladder with a differential of +18, two clear of Melbourne (+16), with Brisbane and Carlton (+15), and Fremantle (+13) making up the top five.
At the other end of the scale is Port Adelaide with a massive -35 differential. They are worse off than the Western Bulldogs (-16), with Adelaide (-14), North Melbourne (-11) and West Coast (-7) making up the bottom five.
Perennial free kick ladder cellar dweller Richmond is next with (-6), alongside Hawthorn (-6).
Most/least frees for
The Dockers have been awarded the most frees with 102, ahead of the Magpies (100), Lions (88), Blues (87) and Kangaroos (84).
Essendon has received the least amount of free kicks with 63, fewer than GWS (64), the Bulldogs (71), Hawthorn (72) and Gold Coast (73).
Most/least frees against
The Power have given away the most free kicks so far in 2023 at 113, more than 28 per game. Next is the Kangaroos (95), Adelaide (93) Fremantle (89) and the Dogs (87).
The fewest frees against lives with the Bombers at a paltry 61, clear of the Giants (62), Demons (63), Suns (65) and Blues (72).
