Harry Himmelberg could possibly be on the way out at GWS this year.
The 26-year-old forward is out of contract at season’s end and is a chance to depart the club where he has so far played 133 games and kicked 157 goals since 2016.
While it is no fait accompli that Himmelberg will be off as a restricted free agent, there are murmurings that he could find himself another home for 2024 and beyond.
Leading Channel 7 journalist Mitch Cleary is of the belief that there are two clubs leading the race for Himmelberg.
“There are a lot of clubs chasing him,” Cleary said on the Tradies podcast.
“I’d have Sydney and Richmond right at the pointy end for Harry Himmelberg.”
Co-host Sam McClure added: “I’d have Richmond in front.”
While the Swans and Tigers appear to be at the front of the pack, the Brisbane Lions are also in the mix.
“Not discounting a little dark horse in Brisbane,” Cleary added.
McClure: “I haven’t heard them mentioned with Himmelberg.”
Cleary: “The family is up in Brisbane, they’ve moved around quite a bit.”
Richmond recruited midfielder Tim Taranto (and Jacob Hopper) from GWS last take period and it is the presence of the former which could help the Tigers lure Himmelberg south.
McClure asked: “Is he close mates with Taranto?”
Cleary: “Incredibly close. I’d go as close to saying they’re best mates.”
Himmelberg, who tuns 27 next month, last signed a four-year extension with the Giants in 2019, but is yet to commit to the club beyond 2023.
His younger brother Elliott remains contracted with the Adelaide Crows until the end of 2024.
