King “very settled” on Gold Coast as Suns begin to motor in 2023

Gold Coast forward Ben King says he’s loving his time with the Suns.

Having successfully recovered from a knee injury, King, who is off-contract at the end of 2024, will no doubt be a target for clubs in his home state of Victoria.

With links already to St Kilda, where his twin brother Max plays, and Collingwood, King is set to be one of the most sought after players if he doesn’t extend his contract soon.

Despite the rumours and reports, King says he’s settled on the Gold Coast after being asked whether he could see himself being a 10-to-15-year player for the Suns.

“Yeah, definitely, I’m very settled up here now,” King replied on SEN Breakfast.

“I bought a house up here and my girlfriend has moved up.

“I love everyone at the football club. So, yeah, I’m definitely really settled up here and I know a lot of the other boys are in the same boat.”

On the field, King has begun to work into his season with nine goals in the past fortnight.

After kicking four in the win over Richmond at Marvel Stadium on Sunday, King credited the group’s mature approach to beating the Tigers in a scrappy affair.

“I think it shows good maturity to be able to grind the game out like that,” King said.

“We came together pretty early in the game and said, ‘This is going to be a scrappy one, so we just have to grind it out and stick to the plan’.

“It was pretty cool to see us get that done.”

After a slow start, the Suns now sit 3-4 on the season and King was asked whether he thinks he and his teammates could break the club’s finals duck in 2023.

“Yeah, I definitely think we're capable of anything,” King said.

“They’re long years, there’s a lot of football to be played.

“We made some fumbles in the early games, but I feel like the last two weeks we've showed what we're capable of.

“We'll look to just keep building on that and, yeah, try not to think too far ahead into the future.

“Hopefully we can keep winning.”

Gold Coast face a tough challenge this weekend as they host Melbourne at Heritage Bank Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
