Dons reportedly interested in former first-round pick Lion

AFL Media’s Cal Twomey believes Essendon are among Victorian clubs interested in Brisbane small forward Kai Lohmann.

The 20-year-old, who is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, has played eight games for the Lions since making his debut in Round 5, 2022 and was initially picked up at pick No. 20 in the 2021 Draft.

Lohmann is the last remaining first-round pick from his draft class that’s yet to re-sign and Twomey thinks the Bombers are a chance to land the GWV Rebels product.

“I think the Bombers are also a chance, and I can throw this one in, to land Kai Lohmann,” Twomey said on AFL.com.au’s Gettable.

“That’s if he decides to come back to Victoria.

“I think they’ll be in amongst a group of clubs that will look at him if he does decide to come back to Victoria.”

Twomey expects the Bombers to be big players this off-season as they chase a raft of free agents having secured their own in Darcy Parish.

“They’re throwing some money around,” Twomey said.

“They’re in for Ben McKay, obviously Hawthorn is coming late for Ben McKay.

“They’re in for Jade Gresham … we don’t just throw things out there out of nowhere.

“We also revealed their interest in Todd Goldstein as a free agent.

“Those are all ones in the mix.”

The 2023 Trade Period begins on Monday, October 9 and runs until Wednesday, October 18.

The free agency period begins on Friday, October 6 and closes on Friday, October 13.
