Don Pyke says he holds an interest in becoming West Coast’s next CEO with Trevor Nisbett’s impending departure.
Nisbett, West Coast’s CEO since 1999, earlier in the week revealed he would not seek an extension to his contract and season 2024 would be his last in charge.
His tenure had become subject to increased scrutiny in recent months following back-to-back bottom two finishes for the Eagles.
With the club backing Adam Simpson to stay on as coach, Nisbett will step down after more than 30 years in various positions at the Eagles.
In announcing his decision, Nisbett said there would “one or two” staff from the Eagles who could throw their hat in the ring.
But club great Pyke – who is in Perth for a holiday – also revealed his interest.
“I’ve spoken to the club. The announcement on Wednesday is that Trevor is not going ahead after next year and I was asked if I was interested,” Pyke told The West Australian.
“I have some interest depending on what the role and the process entails and in my eyes what they’re looking for because it’s got to match all parties.”
Pyke coached under Simpson at West Coast for three years before becoming Adelaide’s senior coach in 2016.
After taking the Crows as far as a Grand Final, he’s been an assistant at Sydney since 2021.
Pyke also played in the 1992 and 1994 West Coast premierships, won a best and fairest in 1993 and played 132 games for the club in the late 20th century.
