West Australian Football Commission talent manager Adam Jones expects West Coast to field multiple offers for pick No.1 in this year’s AFL Draft.
With dynamic Vic Country midfielder Harley Reid all but certain to be taken in the top spot, it’s been reported that multiple clubs will try and prise the top pick from the Eagles.
With North Melbourne already holding pick two and potentially securing pick three if Ben McKay leaves in free agency, Jones pondered whether they’d swap those two selections for a chance at Reid.
“No, I don't know anything at this stage,” Jones told SEN WA The Run Home.
“But I suspect they're going to be taking all the calls around potential offers for clubs that might want Harley Reid.
“If it means that they're able to potentially swap with North Melbourne, it looks like they could be in a very strong position with their draft hand if Ben McKay leaves.
“That would give them potentially picks two and three, then then they would be in a position where they could look to trade to get that number one pick and get Harley Reid into the club and potentially meaning that West Coast will target Curtin.”
Jones can also see a world where the Eagles do listen to offers but hold their pick and take Reid.
If that happens, he’d be certain that WA key defender Daniel Curtin goes to North Melbourne at pick two.
After working with Curtin closely in his role for the WAFC, Jones believes he’s destined to be a top-two selection.
“I would just about put my house on it,” Jones said.
“I reckon if West Coast decides to keep pick one and take Harley Reid, I would put my house on it.
“Curtin would likely end up at North Melbourne.”
While the 195cm teenager plays mainly in key defence, he also spent time in the midfield and up forward for WA in the under-18 National Championships.
Curtin was named at centre half-back in the under-18 All-Australian team.
