VFL star Lachie Sullivan secures Collingwood list spot

VFL star Lachie Sullivan has secured a list spot with reigning premiers Collingwood.

With three list spots available at the Magpies, Sullivan has been selected via the Pre-Season Supplementary Selection Period (SSP).

The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the premier midfielders in the VFL for Footscray in recent years, winning the 2023 Coaches MVP Award, finishing third in the 2023 JJ Liston Trophy, while taking out back-to-back best and fairests for the Dogs.

Sullivan averaged 30.9 disposals, 7.6 clearances, 5.9 tackles and 4.4 inside 50s from 20 appearances in the VFL last season.

The ball magnet was a clear standout in the club's official intra-club on Wednesday, spending majority of the time in the midfield under Darcy Cameron and alongside Jordan De Goey and Fin Macrae.

The other train-on players include former St Kilda midfielder Jack Bytel, VAFA young gun Sam Sofronidis, delisted Port Adelaide ruckman Brynn Teakle as well as Collingwood VFL pair Campbell Hustwaite and Josh Eyre.

The club is able to formally sign players via the SSP up until February 19.

Collingwood fans will be able to see Sullivan next Wednesday when they face North Melbourne in a match simulation at the AIA Centre.

Eyre and Bytel are considered strong hopefuls for the remaining list spots if the Pies add more players before the SSP period ends.

Collingwood begins their quest to go back-to-back with an Opening Round clash against GWS at GIANTS Stadium on Saturday, March 9.
