Swans move quickly to diffuse tense situation between teammates

SAM Wicks isn’t playing football for Sydney at any level this week after a dispute with a teammate boiled over.

Wicks had been accused of acting inappropriately with the former girlfriend of another Swans player.

A thorough club investigation found that those allegations were categorically false and that Wicks, nor his teammate, had done anything wrong.

While all parties were ultimately innocent, the bad blood – brought into the open on a night out involving a group of Sydney players - had threatened to fester in the changeroom.

As a result, Swans officials acted swiftly to take the heat out of the situation by giving Wicks some time off.

Wicks didn’t travel with teammates to Melbourne today, instead remaining in Sydney.

The Swans take on Richmond at the MCG tomorrow, while their VFL side will earlier take on the Tigers without Wicks at Punt Road.

Wicks had been the Swans sub in the first fortnight of the season before a full game against Essendon in Round 3 saw him gather 11 disposals.
