Grading every player in Collingwood's thumping win over West Coast

By Lachlan Geleit

Collingwood have stormed into the top eight after thrashing West Coast 103-37 at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

While the Pies entered with only one of their starting six forwards in the side, their attack was a standout throughout as they easily outscored the Eagles and looked unstoppable at times with their ball use.

The win was set up on the back of a huge second term where the Pies kicked seven goals to two and that dominance continued as the game went on, albeit West Coast were able to stem the bleeding somewhat.

For the winners, Nick Daicos continued his brilliant form in the middle and he was well supported by Jack Crisp while debutant Joe Richards shined in the forward third of the ground as the attackers filled their boots.
For the Eagles, they were hapless all day with no standout players even though the defenders picked a lot of ball with the ball living down that end of the ground.

Unfortunately for the Pies, they lost Jeremy Howe (groin) and Harvey Harrison (ankle) to injury as their casualty ward grows.

The Magpies will hope to get a couple of soldiers back for their game against Adelaide next Saturday at the MCG while the Eagles will also hope to gain a couple of key players back when they host Melbourne on Sunday at Optus Stadium.

Our player grades.

Collingwood

Nick Daicos: A+

A huge game in the midfield for the young superstar. Will end up getting another three votes as he begins to make a Brownlow push. Finished with 36 disposals, seven tackles, seven clearances and a goal. Wow.

Jack Crisp: A+

Another great performance from Crisp who has thrived since being moved back into the midfield a fortnight ago. Finished with a goal and 32 touches.

Josh Daicos: A

Was massive in the second half and ruled a wing. Also hit the scoreboard.

Scott Pendlebury: A

All class, all day. Finished with 28 disposals playing primarily in the midfield.

Joe Richards: A

A brilliant debut game as a fast half forward with neat skills. Had 14 disposals and a goal in the first half alone. Also picked up eight score involvements. Has to stay in the team next week.

Fin Macrae: A

Looked comfortable in his midfield/half-forward role and he finished with three majors to show for it. Another youngster that deserves to keep his place.

Darcy Cameron: B

Easily won his ruck matchup against Bailey Williams and got a heap of footy around the ground with disposals.

Steele Sidebottom: B+

Looked like his old self on the wing with 21 disposals.

Pat Lipinski: B+

Reef McInnes: B+

Kicked three and provided Collingwood a great target with most of their forwards out.

John Noble: B+

Continues to offer some great drive off half back and is becoming a best 22 lock.

Brayden Maynard: B+

Bobby Hill: B+

Kicked two and showed some moments of brilliance inside 50 but could have done more damage if he kicked straight.

Lachie Sullivan: B+

Kicked a goal to go with 18 disposals. Looks at the level every time you see him with ball in hand.

Billy Frampton: B

Darcy Moore: B

Will Hoskin-Elliott: B

Had 17 disposals as a half forward but missed a couple of gettable opportunities at goal.

Mason Cox: C

Isaac Quaynor: C

Oleg Markov: C-

Jack Bytel: N/A

Was subbed on for Howe in the second term but was forced to undergo a concussion test late in the third term in his club debut.

Jeremy Howe: N/A

Started forward and kicked a goal but was subbed out early with a groin injury.

Harvey Harrison: N/A

Went down in the second term with an ankle injury.

West Coast

Liam Duggan: B+

Probably West Coast’s best with disposals playing half back. Finished with nine rebound 50s and five inside 50s.

Alex WItherden: B

Used it well on a few occasions leaving defensive 50 but it was a hard day defensively.

Harley Reid: B

Not a massive game statistically with 17 disposals but did some really special things including a great hanger. Continues to give fans a taste of what’s to come.

Tom Barrass: B

Tried hard in defence and made a couple of goal saving moves.

Jeremy McGovern: B

Played well as an intercept defender but ultimately left the game in the third term with an internal/rib injury.

Jamie Cripps: C+

Tom Cole: C+

Luke Edwards: C+

Another Eagle that worked into the game. Edwards kicked a goal and picked up his touches when West Coast tried to hold onto the ball in their back half.

Tim Kelly: C+

Didn’t do enough with Elliott Yeo out. Only had the disposals as Collingwood’s midfield ran riot.

Dom Sheed: C+

Tried in the midfield but wasn’t up to the pace of the Collingwood group at the contest.

Liam Ryan: C+_

Began to work into the game in the second term with a goal but didn’t do a lot around the ground.

Campbell Chesser: C+

Tyrell Dewar: C+

Kicked a nice goal in his first game and should get another go at it next week.

Jayden Hunt: C

Bailey Williams: C

Beaten comfortably by Cameron around the ground and in the ruck.

Jack Williams: C

Kicked an early goal but didn’t do much else.

Reuben Ginbey: C

Showed some nice signs but really needs to work on his disposal.

Ryan Maric: C-

Kicked a goal but didn’t get a lot of opportunities.

Brady Hough: D

Josh Rotham: D

Jack Darling: D

Tough day for forwards but didn’t make an impact anywhere.

Harvey Johnston: N/A

Replaced Petrucelle in the second term but didn’t make much of an impact.

Jack Petrucelle: N/A

Subbed off in the second quarter after receiving a knock to his ankle in the first term.
