The Parramatta Eels slumped to its sixth loss in eight games to start the 2024 season, after going down by 16 points to the Brisbane Broncos on Friday night.

After staying within reaching distance of the Broncos throughout the first half, the undermanned Eels capitulated in the second half and showed little solidarity in defence.

The loss is the latest in a string of disappointing performances for the famous club over the last 18 months and the fans are rapidly losing patience in the side.

Long time Parramatta fan and The Sydney Morning Herald’s Chief NRL reporter, Adrian Proszenko admitted the club’s showings of late are not good enough considering the size of team.

“There was no lack of effort (against Brisbane) but now as a long-suffering Parramatta fan have moved past that ‘Oh at least they had a go’,” Proszenko said on SEN NRL Crunch Time.

“It’s not good enough for that squad.

“I just think it’s getting to a point where it’s unacceptable that a club of that size, and magnitude, with a home ground being such an advantage… massive junior nussery base, rostered on supporters, large member following, it’s just not good enough.

“They’ve got to look a little bit at their recruitment.”

Plenty of pressure has been placed on coach Brad Arthur, who after ten years in charge of the club, could be running out of time to save his job.

“Obviously (there’s) question marks around Brad Arthur, because that’s always the easiest solution to punt the coach,” Proszenko added.

“To be fair to Parramatta, they have been right behind and that’s in spite of the fact that Wayne Bennett has been sending up smoke signals.

“They’ve hitched their wagon to Brad Arthur, my understanding is that Wayne Bennett is going to South Sydney, that the deal is done and it will be announced next week.”

The Parramatta Eels could be set to welcome back star half Mitchell Moses next week as they head to Melbourne next Sunday to face the Storm.
