Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino have parted ways after just one season together.
The Argentine manager has left the Premier League club, owned by American Todd Boehly, by mutual consent despite having a year to run on his contract.
Pochettino guided the Blues to sixth position in England’s top flight, saw them through to the Carabao Cup (League Cup) Final and had them in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Chelsea’s sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart said in a statement: “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”
Former Southampton, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss Pochettino said: “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club's history. The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
Pochettino’s coaching staff of Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino have all left Stamford Bridge as well.
Pochettino was hired by the Blues in July last year.
The club has spent $1.9 billion AUD (£1b) on signing players since Boehly’s Clearlake Capital took control from Roman Abramovich in May 2022.
Since Jose Mourinho departed Chelsea in 2015, the west London club has had 10 managers (including caretakers).
