A handful of former AFL-listed players are being seriously considered for the Mid-Season Rookie Draft which takes place next Wednesday.
There are over 120 players who have nominated for the mid-season draft with 26 spots open on AFL lists.
Former Sydney speedster Matthew Ling, who was taken with Pick 14 in the 2017 draft, is believed to be on the radar off several clubs, according to AFL Media’s Cal Twomey.
“There are some ex-AFL players who are in the mix,” Twomey said on SEN Breakfast.
“Matthew Ling is getting some interest, the former Swans wingman.
“He was a first-rounder who only played a handful of games but had some real speed off half-back and through the wings.
“He’s getting some interest.”
Ling is averaging 19.2 disposals, 4.6 marks and 3.6 rebound 50s for Norwood in the SANFL this season. He played in both SA state games against Victoria and Western Australia.
Twomey also suggested that another first-round draftee, ex-Richmond midfielder Riley Collier-Dawkins, is being watched by Carlton, as is Liam McMahon who was previously on Collingwood’s list.
While 23-game Magpies player Trent Bianco has attracted the interest of the Western Bulldogs given his form for the Footscray VFL side. He is averaging 21 touches in red, white and blue.
“Carlton has looked at Riley Collier-Dawkins, the Tigers’ former first-round pick,” Twomey added.
“Also Liam McMahon who is playing in their VFL side and was formerly at the Pies.
“Josh Gabelich has reported that the Dogs are looking at Trent Bianco. The former Magpie is playing with the Footscray VFL side.
“There are currently 26 open spots around the comp. I think a fair chunk of them will be filled given the injury crisis.”
Collier-Dawkins averages 23.6 disposals for Williamstown in the VFL and McMahon has kicked 15 goals in six games for the VFL Blues.
Some other names formerly on AFL lists who are in the mix include former Gold Coast defender Jez McLennan, who has been in great form for Central District in the SANFL and former Port Adelaide ruckman Brynn Teakle (currently with WAFL club East Fremantle), alongside Flynn Perez (North Melbourne), Arlo Draper (Collingwood), Osca Riccardi (Geelong) and Kyle Dunkley (Melbourne).
Premiership Bulldog Toby McLean, currently dominating the VAFA with Old Ivanhoe, has also nominated.
