Roos fall and Membrey boots six against Demons in Sunday VFL action

Round 9 of the 2024 VFL season is complete with two games rounding out the weekend on Sunday.

The day’s first game took place at Avalon Airport Oval with Werribee easily accounting for North Melbourne 99-30.

The Tigers smashed North in every aspect, with 357 disposals to 268, 124 marks to 79 and 53 inside 50s to 33.

VFL stars Dom Brew (32 disposals), Riley Bice (one goal, 24 disposals) and Jack Henderson (two goals, 24 disposals) were among the big ball-winners for the victors.

For the Kangaroos, Will Phillips (25 disposals), Charlie Lazarro (17 disposals) and Dylan Stephens (one goal, 19 disposals) all battled hard to try and get back into the senior side.

Sunday’s other game took place at Casey Fields. This encounter was far closer with the home side going down to Sandringham 98-111.

With both the Demons and Saints facing off at AFL level on Sunday, plenty of names put their hands up for selection on both sides of the fence.

Sandringham had a raft of senior players stand up including Tim Membrey (six goals), Hunter Clark (30 disposals), Brad Crouch (30 disposals), Ben Paton (26 disposals) and Dan Butler (1.3 and 16 disposals)

For Casey, Bailey Laurie (two goals, 25 disposals), Jack Billings (24 disposals) and Koltyn Tholstrup (23 disposals) were among the best.

The win lifts Sandringham from 12th to sixth.

Other Round 9 winners included Sydney, Gold Coast, Geelong, Footscray, Southport, Brisbane and Richmond.

Collingwood, Coburg and Williamstown had the bye.
