Cornes reacts as Crows make shock call and Tigers recall big guns for Thursday clash

The teams are officially in for the Round 13 Thursday night clash between Adelaide and Richmond at the Adelaide Oval.

As revealed by SEN’s Sam Edmund, Adelaide have dropped ruckman Reilly O’Brien for Kieran Strachan.

O’Brien has played at least 20 games in every season since 2021 and has played all 12 games in 2024 but was dropped after his nine-disposal, eight-tackle, 35-hitout performance in last Saturday’s loss to Hawthorn at the MCG.

They’ve also brought in Billy Dowling for his debut with the midfielder replacing the injured Matt Crouch. Ned McHenry and Will Hamill come in for Taylor Walker and Brayden Cook.

As for Richmond, they’ve welcomed back Dion Prestia, Tim Taranto, Shai Bolton and Jacob Koschitzke with Mykelti Lefau and Marlion Pickett out injured, while Dustin Martin is out due to management. Kaleb Smith has been dropped.

SEN Sportsday’s Kane Cornes reacted to the teams being released on Wednesday night, with the O’Brien call the headline.

“Adelaide has swung the axe at selection,” Cornes said.

“Reilly O'Brien has paid the price for their disappointing performance against the Hawks, so he is out.

“That was confirmed by Sam Edmund earlier and was backed up by others including Mitch Cleary.

“Big Kieran Strachan is going to take over the ruck duties for the Crows.

“Matthew Nicks is getting a little bit impatient, the pressure is building.”
