Future NRL immortal and SEN’s Cameron Smith is predicting a NSW thrashing at the hands of Queensland in State of Origin Game I on Wednesday night.
NSW have made a number of changes due largely to injuries but also the arrival of new coach Michael Maguire.
The Maroons have also had an uninterrupted lead up to Game I whilst NSW have jettisoned former captain James Tedesco after first choice fullback Dylan Edwards pulled out due to a quad strain.
Smith believes Queensland’s strike players such as Reece Walsh and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow will be too much to handle for the Blues’ defence.
“I think we are in for a big night for Queensland,” Smith said on SEN's Whateley.
“My prediction is 32-10 for Queensland.
“They are two very different sides because Queensland want to play expansively and move the NSW defence around.
“Queensland have a lot of weapons in their arsenal whereas you look at NSW, they are a big and physical football team.
“They will try to bash the door down with their physicality and their size.
“NSW will back their defence and minimise the field position that the Maroons play with.
“The Blues will try and just get over the line. Queensland, if they are in an attacking position, they have so many points in them.
“If Queensland hold on to the ball and find themselves in good field position, I think they can rack up a big score.”
Game I will be held at Accor Stadium before the series moves to the MCG on June 26.
