Round 12 of the VFL season is complete with four games taking place across Sunday.
The day’s first game took place at the AIA Centre with Collingwood hosting North Melbourne before the AFL sides met at Marvel Stadium in the afternoon.
Unlike the match in the seniors, it was the Kangaroos who took the victory 79-120.
North Melbourne led from effectively start to finish as they controlled the Magpies all day.
Off-season recruit Dylan Stephens was everywhere for the winners with two goals and 31 disposals while top-five pick Zane Duursma (three goals, 25 disposals) was dominant.
The Roos had more AFL talent playing than the Magpies as Collingwood battles with an injury crisis and that hurt them with only Jack Bytel (37 disposals) and Ash Johnson (three goals) really standing out as players that could push into senior selection thoughts.
The other game involving an AFL side’s reserves also took place earlier in the day with GWS beating Port Melbourne 71-57 in Blacktown.
In an up-and-down encounter, Port Melbourne led at every break until the Giants kicked five goals to two in the last term to run away victors.
For GWS, James Peatling (two goals, 31 disposals) put his hand up for a senior recall while Harry Rowston (27 disposals), Wade Derksen (28 disposals) and Joe Fonti (22 disposals) got plenty of it.
For the Borough, former AFL forward Billy Gowers was the main man up forward with 4.5 and 17 disposals.
The last two games were played between standalone clubs as Coburg went down to Southport 47-58 at Piranha Park before the round wrapped up in Williamstown with the Seagulls beating the Northern Bullants 85-60.
The other Round 12 winners on Saturday were Brisbane over Sandringham, Sydney over Footscray and Box Hill over Richmond.
The Bulldogs sit atop the ladder with a 9-2 record while Geelong sit second at 8-2. Werribee, Southport, Box Hill and Williamstown are all equal with the Cats on 32 premiership points.
