Social media has been ablaze with criticism of Darcy Moore, after the Collingwood captain kneed Jarrod Witts in a marking contest, injuring the Suns ruckman.
It comes after Moore made similar contact with Melbourne’s Christian Petracca, leading to his season-ending spleen injury.
The suggestions online – including the SEN text machine – are that the Pies skipper is using his knee deliberately to cause damage.
Garry Lyon vehemently disagrees with the assertation, saying Moore has absolutely nothing to worry about.
“All anyone wants to talk about is Darcy Moore. I’ve gone back and had a look at it. There is nothing in it,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.
“I know people want to make something of it, that’s coming through loud and clear.
“I went back and watched the Petracca incident 100 times. He comes from the side. It’s not like he’s lining him up. The Witts one he came from behind, jumped and spoiled – that’s what defenders do.
“Do I in any way think he is targeting players with his knees? In my opinion, there is not one shred of evidence to suggest that is the case.
“It is footy. He is a big backman and he comes at the ball really aggressively and with velocity. I don’t think he’s got an issue in the world.”
Witts suffered a fractured vertebrae and will miss his side’s clash with North Melbourne this weekend.
