Euro 2024 has reached the pointy end of the tournament following the completion of the quarter final stage that once again produced plenty of drama.
After hosts Germany scored a late equaliser against Spain to send the match to extra time, the game looked certain to be heading to penalties before Spanish defender Mikel Merrino slotted a perfect header in the 119th minute to send the three-time tournament winners to the next stage.
Spain will take on France who defeated Portugal in a tense penalty shootout.
Remarkably Les Bleus are still yet to score a goal through open play at Euro 2024 but just did enough to send Portugal home in what will likely be Cristiano Ronaldo’s final appearance at the Euros.
England continued prevailed over Switzerland in a penalty shootout and in doing so, kept the hopes of a nation starved of international success alive. After 120 minutes, England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was the hero as he made two clutch saves to knock the Swiss out of the tournament.
The Netherlands were the final team to book their place in the semi-finals. The Deutsch went behind early against Türkiye before scoring two quick fire goals in the second half and nervously held on to claim a 2-1 win.
On Wednesday morning, Spain will play France for a spot in the Euro 2024 final before the Netherlands take on England on Thursday.
