Australian football great Mark Bosnich has previewed the Euro 2024 Final between Spain and England.

Spain enter the game at Berlin’s Olympiastadion as favourites having won all of their group games as well as knockout clashes against Georgia 4-1, Germany 2-1 and France 2-1.

England on the other hand has won four games while drawing two. In the knockout stages, they beat Slovakia 2-1 thanks to some late heroics, Switzerland 1-1 (5-3) on penalties and the Netherlands 2-1 thanks to a 91st-minute winner. They conceded first in all three knockout matches.

While England’s form hasn’t been as strong as Spain’s, their best performance of the tournament came in the Semi-Final win over the Dutch and he wondered if it was written in the stars that Gareth Southgate’s team would continue finding a way to win in the Final.

“Spain are overwhelming favourites and understandably so,” Bosnich, who played alongside Southgate at Aston Villa, told SEN Breakfast.

“They’ve been the best team in the tournament, they’ve scored the most goals, created the most goals.

“But England have just brought themselves up slowly but surely, just like a horse on a long race after looking dead and buried on so many occasions.

“They put out their best performance against the Netherlands and now are into the Final.

“We have a thing called the football gods and sometimes things are written in the stars.

“Is it written in the stars that England are going to win this? It wouldn't surprise me whatsoever.

“I am biased in terms of England because my ex-teammate (at Aston Villa), who I won a trophy with, Gareth Southgate is the manager. I did tip them at the start of the tournament.

“But the way Spain have played from the opening game that they had against Croatia, they've played really, really well.

“They're an exceptional team. It will be an upset if they if they do happen to lose to England.”

While the English are underdogs, Bosnich is picking them to win it all in Berlin and tipped a scoreline of 2-1.

“The thing is, they haven't won a major trophy for 58 years,” Bosnich said.

“So, we've seen this before and it would be worth nothing if they don't happen to win on Sunday.

“But I'm going to go for the upset. I'm going to stick with my original tip before the tournament.

“I'm going to go England 2-1.”

England’s only major tournament win came in the 1966 World Cup.

Spain has won the World Cup in 2010 and Euros in 2008 and 2012.

Monday’s final begins at 5:00am (AEST).
