The Cronulla Sharks have put behind a poor month of form in emphatic fashion with a 58-6 win over the Wests Tigers on Friday night.
Coming into the game losing five of its last six games and without star half Nicho Hynes, the Sharks were in serious danger of continuing their mid-season slump against the bottom-placed team.
However, after a relatively even start, the Sharks blew the Tigers out of the park in the final hour of play scoring 52 unanswered points to walk away with the big win.
The result puts a spotlight on the Tigers' struggles over the last couple of years and is a noticeable sign of regression after a positive run of form in the last couple of weeks.
Coach Benji Marshall didn’t hide his disappointment in the post-game press conference and offered his apologies to the long-suffering fan base.
“I’ve got to apologise to our fans,” he said.
“When you take the field, you’ve got to choose the right attitude, and tonight they ran harder and tackled way harder than us and it showed on the scoreboard.
“We haven’t seen that (lack of attitude) all year.
“If it was a weekly occurrence then I’d probably know more, but it’s the first time I’ve seen it this year.
“When you take the field, you’ve got to take the right attitude with how hard you want to tackle and how hard you want to run. They ran harder and tackled harder than us and had way more energy than us.”
The Tigers will get a chance to bounce back next Saturday afternoon when they play the resurgent South Sydney Rabbitohs.
