Spain has won a fourth UEFA European Championship, defeating England 2-1 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
The Spaniards, managed by Luis de la Fuente, have become the first European nation to lift the trophy on four occasions adding Euro 2024 to their continental triumphs in 1964, 2008 and 2012.
Again it was heartbreak for England who lost the 2020 Final to Italy on penalties before being edged out in the 86th minute four years later. Their hunt for a major title continues having not saluted since the 1966 World Cup.
After a scoreless opening half, Nico Williams opened the scoring for Spain when finishing emphatically from a perfectly weighted Lamine Yamal pass two minutes into the second half.
Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate needed urgency off the bench and that he got by injecting Cole Palmer into the action.
The Chelsea star took just a few minutes to announce himself in the tournament decider by firing England level in the 73rd minute with a superb strike from outside the area.
It gave England hope, but that was soon snuffed out when the Spanish side again went ahead through Mikel Oyarzabal who played a deft one-two with Marc Cucurella before poking it beyond an advancing Jordan Pickford.
That intervention by the substitute sent Spain to the winners’ dais on which the nation has now stood on a record four occasions.
Spain’s 17-year-old superstar-in-the-making Yamal was named Young Player of the Tournament while midfield maestro Rodri landed the Player of the Tournament title.
Barcelona whiz kid Yamal also became the youngest ever winner of the Euros at 17 years and one day.
Spain won all seven matches at the tournament, scoring 15 goals and conceding four.
