Collingwood assistant coach Scott Selwood is a name to watch in the West Coast coaching search, according to WA journalist Mark Duffield.
Sydney’s Dean Cox is the heavy favourite to replace Adam Simpson at the Eagles for 2025, while the likes of Ash Hansen (Carlton), Jaymie Graham (Fremantle) and Scott Burns (Adelaide) have also been touted as leading candidates.
Duffield however believes the 34-year-old Selwood is highly rated internally at the Magpies and could be a wildcard in the coaching race.
“Just a name that might be a part of the process,” Duffield told SEN WA Mornings.
“I haven’t heard this name spill out into the public yet, but he does have links to West Coast.
“Their former midfielder and best and fairest winner Scott Selwood.
“He’s at Collingwood, he has several seasons in the system as an assistant coach at a very successful club and the Magpies have big raps on him as a young coach.
“One of the reasons why Craig McRae feels comfortable coaching at ground level is he has people like Selwood in the coaches box.”
Selwood reportedly knocked back interest from Brisbane to remain at Collingwood in 2024.
He worked as a development coach at the club between 2019 and 2021 before taking over as forward line coach.
