The flying Sydney Swans have added another string to their bow this season with star forward Tom Papley finding some serious form in recent weeks.
After kicking 16 goals in 10 games earlier this season, the small forward has returned to his absolute best in the last six weeks in kicking 14 majors on the back of an impressive four-goal haul against North Melbourne last weekend.
In the last five weeks, according to Champion Data, Papley has been in the top five rated players in the competition.
Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne has highlighted the impact that the 28-year-old has had on games in recent weeks.
“This is scary for the rest of the competition,” Hoyne told SEN's Sportsday.
“Just when you thought Sydney are just about complete, this guy (Papley) has just taken his game to another level over the last six weeks, and is absolutely flying.
“In the last six weeks, only Errol Gulden has been involved in more scores across the competition than what this guy has.
“His ability to win contest inside the forward 50 is top 10 in the competition, and he's kicked 14 goals across his last (six) matches as well.
“What he's doing over the last six weeks is now posing a headache to the opposition.
“So that's going to be an interesting matchup for Brisbane ahead of this weekend.”
The first-placed Swans will face one of their biggest tests for the year when they take on the in-form Lions in a top-four clash at the Gabba on Sunday afternoon.
Papley's 30 goals for the season ranks second at Sydney behind Joel Amartey's 34 and ahead of Chad Warner, Logan McDonald and Will Hayward's 28.
