Kane Cornes has called out Brisbane’s Eric Hipwood for a dangerous tunnelling action on Sydney’s Nick Blakey.

The contact saw the Swans star land on his head, with Cornes labelling it one of the most dangerous actions he’s seen on a footy field in 2024.

“That was one of the more dangerous things I’ve seen this year. If you’re going to suspend Toby Bedford, and I don’t care about the matrix and all the rubbish that goes into it, this was one of the most dangerous things I’ve seen on a football field,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“It was a tunnelling action in a marking contest, Blakey came down awkwardly and could have easily fallen on his neck.

“The umpires unforgivably didn’t even pay it as a free kick. They need to have a look at themselves.

“The AFL can’t accept this and he should be suspended for a lengthy amount of time, regardless of the MRO matrix.”

The Lions now prepare for the Q-Clash on Saturday afternoon, hoping to end Gold Coast’s undefeated run at home.
