New Zealander Aidan Nicholas has proven yet again that Kiwis can in fact fly.
Nicholas has won the prestigious Molokai 2 Oahu Wing Foil race in an ultra-fast 1:49.04 beating his nearest rival by 13 minutes.
The race took competitors on a 65km journey from the island of Molokai back to Oahu through the notorious Ka'Iwi Channel.
Nicholas, 25, was the first of the wing foil competitors, sealing his victory with an impressive sailing air as he reached the finish line.
The race was the first of two weekend's worth of racing that culminates on Monday (NZ time) with the Molokai 2 Oahu paddleboard championships, where competitors will race 52km across the Ka'iwi Channel in the event's 25th running.
A host of Kiwi paddlers will line up in this race in the stock prone paddle board category – boards 12 foot long – and stand-up paddle board category.
