The Canberra Raiders are continuing to defy the odds in 2024 as they remain in strong contention for an unprecedented top eight finish.
Coming into the season as the favourite to finish at the bottom of the ladder, Canberra currently sit just one win outside a finals spot and have a favourable run home in the late stages of the season.
After surviving an injury crisis, the Raiders now welcome back star half Jamal Fogarty and are poised to strongly contend against the likes of the Cowboys and Dolphins for a top eight finish.
The club’s CEO, Don Furner admitted whilst this season’s competition is one of the tightest he can remember, he is still confident in his side securing back-to-back finals finishes.
“We think we can make it,” Furner said on SEN 1170 Mornings.
“Honestly, everybody says this but it’s so true, it is the tightest competition I can think of, anybody can beat anybody.
“Canterbury are a lot better than last year, St George are a lot better than last year, teams that were losing more than winning are winning.
“I know it sounds like a cliché but every game you have to be up, every game things have to go your way and we need that.
“We’ve got to win those games, we’ve lost a few that we probably pencilled down to wins throughout the year, we’ve just got to win.
“We think we should be in the eight so that’s what we're aiming for… it’s a hard comp.”
The Raiders will continue their surge to the finals when they host the Rabbitohs on Sunday evening.
