Hypothetically, Rodney Eade would be happy to be at the helm of either Fremantle or Brisbane in this year’s premiership race.
The Hawthorn great and former Sydney, Western Bulldogs and Gold Coast coach was quizzed on which club he’d be keen to coach for the remainder of the season in the hunt for a premiership cup.
On SEN’s Sportsday, Gerard Healy asked: “Let’s take the top two sides out, Sydney and Carlton.
“If you had to coach one side for the last two months of the season to win the flag, who would you like?”
Eade responded by naming the Dockers and Lions as the two teams he believes can mount a serious challenge for the 2024 flag.
“Fremantle then Brisbane,” was his reply.
“Brisbane because they’ve got the experience and have a little bit to prove, so mentally they’d have a bit of a harder edge.
“I think Fremantle’s midfield (is strong). Caleb Serong, Hayden Young is an exceptional player, Andrew Brayshaw over the last three or four weeks is getting back to his best.
“They’ve got some speed. You like speed, it just breaks things open.
“Michael Frederick and Sam Switkowski in the forward line. Switkowski’s pressure is terrific.
“They’re starting to move the ball better. Earlier in the year they were kick-mark, kick-mark, actually defending with ball in hand.
“There’s still a bit of that, but once they go, they go, and they really try to score heavily and quickly which I like as well.”
Eade’s selections currently sit third (Brisbane) and fourth (Fremantle) on the ladder ahead of their Round 20 clashes with Gold Coast and West Coast respectively.
