Brisbane Broncos legend Corey Parker believes the addition of dual international and former Bronco Ben Te’o as an assistant coach next season is a massive boost for the club.

The appointment comes after news both John Cartwright and Lee Briers are on their way to the UK Super League next season and also rumours Matt Ballin may be on the move to be an assistant under his former mentor in Des Hasler at the Gold Coast Titans.

Te’o will join the Broncos after several years at the Dolphins as the club’s Queensland Cup coach and formerly with the Colts side and also following on from coaching the Queensland Under-19s this year.

Parker, who played at the Broncos with Te’o, said the man who won a premiership with South Sydney in 2014 was a great signing by Brisbane.

“I spoke to Benny Teo last night… terrific appointment for the Broncos, he’s got a wonderful rapport, he cares a lot about his players, he looked after the Redcliffe colts for a while now he’s got the QCup team and he had the Queensland Under-19s this year,” he said on SENQ Breakfast.

“He’s a wonderful person he’s won a competition, he’s got an array of experience not only in rugby league but in rugby union, went and played for England a dual international and he will be taking part as Kevvie’s coaching assistants next year and I think it’s a great appointment.”

Parker, who has been critical of the Broncos at times this season, believed there was one quality Te’o would bring to the club which would have a great impact on the side going forward.

“One thing about Ben Teo, he’s very honest, now in different stages and times, players they don’t like honesty,” he said.

“But I think it’s very important particularly when you’re in the industry in.

“A great appointment and I wish him all the best.”

The Broncos host the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
